Character Information
Name: Souji Tendou
Canon: Kamen Rider Kabuto
Canon Point: Post-series
Age: 21
History: Wiki link!
Personality:
“Grandma said this: Force the world to revolve around you, it's more fun that way.” This is the essence of Tendou Souji's personality and philosophy, somebody who truly believes that he is a treasure bestowed upon the universe and who works damned hard so he lives up to that claim.
Tendou (and it’s always Tendou or Tendou Souji, he’s never referred to with only his given name,) is truly larger than life. Somebody who, on the surface, excels at everything that he does and has an ego that more than matches his boundless talent. Tendou Souji is a brilliant fighter, a peerless chef, and a complete charmer amongst other things. That said, he is also dedicated to his goals to the point of obsession, deciding against university and work in favour of more training, firm in his belief that he would not only become Kamen Rider Kabuto, he was going to be the greatest of heroes. The downside of this is that his overbearing pride and disdain towards anything which does not aid in his quest means he has few close personal relationships, and while he does not miss them, it is something which has come back to hurt him several times.
However, his grandmother also said “the centre of the world shall save the world.” Tendou believes in a strange sort of noblesse oblige, and for all he antagonises people he finds boring, or even people he finds interesting for the reaction, he has a strong sense of justice and responsibility. He has very little patience for both the Worms and not much more for those who hurt others, especially women and children. He throws himself into battle against mankind's enemies with relish, truly believing that it is only natural for he is “the man who walks the path of heaven, destined to rule over all.” It is this trait of his that makes him bearable, occasionally even endearing, to his less eccentric companions.
Another of his grandmother’s words of wisdom, and he has a lot of them, is that “men must be cool, boiling water only turns to steam.” He attempts to always act in a cool way, not letting his passions get the better of him, eschewing the yelling and crying of typical heroes in favour of taking the time to calculate the surest path towards success. Preparation is important, thinking things through as well!
While Tendou goes to great lengths for everyone, as is only befitting for somebody as great as him, the things he does for those he truly loves go above and beyond that. Anything which threatens the lives of his sisters might as well die, as simple as that, even if he has to make the entire world his enemy. So while his plans are usually inscrutable, if they become obviously and unusually reckless, it's usually not hard to guess why. While some may call that a hole in his idealism, Tendou is unlikely to change, and depending on how much he cares for your opinion, would respond either by saying that since he is the centre of the world, he gets to make the rules, or that a justice which cannot protect his loved ones is not worth much.
After his family and his battle, the thing he considers most important is cooking, and food in general. He is also amazingly competitive, letting few challenges past him, and even fewer stand a chance at winning at all. This of course leads to at least one amazingly ridiculous cooking battle.
All in all, Tendou Souji is a fascinating specimen. He is far too egotistical to be considered a straightforward hero, and yet too competent and driven to just be a weirdo. Although he is a weirdo.
Abilities: Tendou possesses the power to transform into Masked Rider Kabuto, an armoured hero with superhuman abilities. Kabuto itself has three forms, Masked Form, Rider Form, and Hyper Form. While they're all physically superior to ordinary humans in every way, broadly speaking, Masked Form is the basic form, Rider Form trades off some strength and durability for more speed and access to his finisher the Rider Kick, and Hyper Form is the super form and therefore just better, and has more finishers.
Apart from enhanced stats, the most important of Kabuto's abilities is Clock Up. By tapping a button on the side of his belt in Rider Form, Kabuto can enter a state of super speed, where bullets move like snails and entire fights take place within the blink of an eye. Video example of Clock Up in action here.
As Hyper Kabuto, he gains access to Hyper Clock Up, which in its most basic form is to Clock Up what Clock Up is to normal speed. When pushed to its maximum, Hyper Kabuto is known to move backwards in time. (Although for the purposes of maintaining our sanity, it almost certainly won't be used in The Far Shore.)
Apart from being Masked Rider Kabuto, Tendou is also good at... pretty much everything. He's a one of a kind genius, or so he'd say. Sports, medicine, hair-styling, he's dabbled in it all. However, he's especially good at cooking, claiming that "truly delicious food will change the life of those who eat it."
Strengths: Genius, confident, unflappable, inspiring, smooth
Weaknesses: Arrogant, philosophically narrow, anti-social, overly competitive, actually a weirdo with only one friend
God/Shinki: God
Why?: "God of the Sun" is one of his epithets in series, and who is more suited to godhood than the man walking the path of heaven? As the centre of the world who embodies justice, (his own words,) Tendou has already been living the Noragami god life, at least in his own eyes. It would probably be more interesting to have him reprise that role, but also force him to grapple with more ordinary morality in the form of his Shinki. Also, even if there's no God or Buddha, there is Kamen Rider.
Top 3 Choices: Ra (Egypytian mythology), Helios (Greek mythology), Sol Invictus (Roman mythology)
God Type: Grandma said this: "Man walks the path of men, and that which paves that path is the path of heaven." She also said, "a truly famous store does not put out advertisements." Tendou, if it weren't obvious from my top 3, will aspire to be the greatest sun god of them all.
What that means in the specific, is that he will try to grant the wishes of people attempting to better themselves, paving the "path of men" so they can keep walking it. He's not terribly interested in short-term gains, the grind of gathering followers considered beneath him, and therefore has no interest in helping those he has no interest in. He does, however, make an exception for children, ("their wishes are the reality of tomorrow,") and issues caused by the supernatural. (A Rider's duty is to defeat monsters.)
Of course, he wouldn't find anything odd about being chosen to be a god. It's only natural for a man of his talents, after all.
Power: What Kamen Rider would be caught dead without a sweet ride? As sun gods are known to carry the sun around on their barges, chariots, and other such vehicles, so must Tendou. He gains an instant mastery of any vehicle or steed he gets on, controlling them as if he had done it his entire life. If possible, I would also like to say he can bling the heck out of whatever he rides, turning them into something flashy enough for the sun.
